Case Study
Growing High-Tech Firm
Situation
We were contacted by a high tech company that was seeking to grow its staff, but was unable to find qualified candidates. The company was having difficulty even getting people to apply. Of those that did, although many candidates looked good on paper, most were rejected after being interviewed. They went on to have successful careers somewhere else. Several of those who were hired turned out to be a poor fit and did not remain with the company. The company was unable to move forward on an aggressive development plan due to lack of staff.
Intervention
We worked with management and employees to accurately define the job qualifications and characteristics. We helped them identify critical “soft” skills that would be needed to perform at a high level within the company. We assisted management in understanding how to portray the company as an attractive place to work and in positioning the company to recruit people who would be most likely to fit in. We trained employees in motivational interviewing techniques and participated in the interviewing process to help them correctly identify qualified candidates.
Results
The company was able to identify and attract the highly qualified candidates it was looking for. It was able to successfully recruit a number of them, filling out its development teams. As a result, the company could implement its development schedule and get its products out the door, dramatically increasing revenue.
