Mid-Sized Retail Firm
Situation
The Aardvark Corporation, a mid-sized retail business, was planning a weekend long strategic retreat for its top executives. Previous retreats had, however, generally failed to produce the level of innovation and creativity that the company was seeking. Furthermore, many attendees reported feeling exhausted and frustrated by the end of the retreats.
Intervention
We worked with senior management to clearly articulate the desired outcomes for the weekend. We developed pre-meeting "homework" that was distributed to all attendees. We identified key milestones for the weekend and developed a roadmap for the retreat. During the weekend, we facilitated the meetings, leading brainstorming and evaluation sessions.
Results
By the end of the weekend, the company had identified and obtained buy-in amongst senior management on several new, creative initiatives. Attendees reported that for the first time they felt energized and excited by the event.
